The LAS Library Reimagined

Here’s a sneak peek at the new furnishings and layout.

The Lincoln Akerman School Library is in need of an update that goes beyond new furniture—to create a dynamic, inclusive space designed to inspire a love of reading, learning, and innovation in every student. The last update was made in 1987 and the furniture and layout are ripe for improvement. The proposed design will overhaul the layout to create a more open, welcoming space with improved flow, making it easier for students to explore books and learning materials, as well as refurnish everything from the tables and chairs to shelving and circulation desk.

One of the most exciting additions will be a cozy new reading nook — a quiet, inviting corner where young readers can curl up with a good book and let their imaginations soar.

With thoughtful design and updated furnishings, the library can become a brighter, more functional heart of the school and once again serve as a warm, flexible space for community meetings and gatherings.

Q&A

When was the library furniture last updated?

The furniture in the library is 38 years old! The last update was in 1987 and the entire library, including the furnishings, have significant wear and tear from their heavy use.

How much is being raised?

We’re raising $80,000 to cover furniture, design, delivery and installation costs.

What will happen to the old furniture?

Items that are in still usable condition will be distributed to other rooms throughout the school. Other items will be donated or sold with proceeds being returned to the school.

Why isn’t this being funded from the school budget?

Critical infrastructure items such as fixing the roof and updating the HVAC systems have taken priority over updating the library in the school budget. Yet, we believe there is strong support for our school, and that as a community we can come together to give our students a refreshed library where they can learn and thrive.

When are the funds needed?

Our goal is to complete fundraising by March 2026.

When will the library be updated?

If our fundraising is successful, the library update will be completed over the 2026 summer and in use for the ‘26-’27 school year.
